Claire Kurylowski is a London-based filmmaker and photographer.

In March 2015 she became an inaugural filmmaker of the British Film Institute (BFI) Flare Pilot Mentorship scheme in partnership with Creative Skillset. It is an initiative for five emerging LGBT filmmakers to develop their practice mentored by a senior figure from the film industry. Kurylowski was paired with Ester Martin Bergsmark the director of Something Must Break (2014). Both filmmakers share a desire to capture the intimacy of their subjects with an intensity that leans towards transgressive.

Kurylowski’s short film, In Real Life (2014) a feminist social inquiry into the pervasive nature of sexual harassment, had its cinema premiere at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) London as part of the London Short Film Festival. The film initially garnered a place in Dazed Digital’s Visionaries, a landmark online series, dedicated to groundbreaking original video content.

Since her graduation from film school at the Arts Institute Bournemouth where she won a Kodak Student Commercials award, Kurylowski’s evolution as a director has taken place between Berlin and London. She’s worked on short form work, music videos, featured at international film festivals (A Shaded View On Fashion Film Festival, London Short Film Festival, UnderWire Festival, The European Independent Film Festival) and received online accolades such as a Vimeo Staff Pick.
